Lumen Technologies has expanded its network-as-a-service (NaaS) capability to 136 data centers and on-net locations in North America. The service initially was available in 23 data centers.

Lumen said that its data center partners are offering the service in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Ashburn, Va.

Lumen Internet On-Demand offers service providers or on-net enterprises a dedicated connection to Lumen’s network that can quickly scale capacity up to 10 Gbps; consumption-based billing starting at hourly rates; real-time visibility into service performance and network usage; and quick enablement of new capabilities. The service is available through a digital portal or as an application programming interface (API).

“We’ve created a brand-new customer experience. In just a few clicks and minutes, businesses are getting an on-demand service in a simplified and differentiated way,” Lumen CTO Andrew Dugan said in a press release.

“With every new data center and on-net enabled business location, we continue to build on our vision to cloudify traditional telecom and disrupt the industry. We’re seeing customers across key verticals turning to our consumption-based Network-as-a-Service model to help solve their most pressing business challenges.”

Lumen identified healthcare providers, technology companies and government agencies as early customers of the service. The company said that next year the features and services that will be added include port activation, automation activation, private IPVPN, Ethernet cloud connect services, and security services including distributed denial of service (DDoS) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE).

The service was introduced in late July.
