Telehealth

The FCC fifth tranche of application approvals in the second round of the COVID-19 Telehealth Program, totaling $42,702,383, has been made to 68 health care organizations. To date, more than $208 million has been awarded to organizations in the 50 states and U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.

Round 2 will total $249.95 million and builds on the $200 million program established in the CARES Act. Last month, the FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau issued a Public Notice enabling remaining applicants to supplement their submissions. Today’s announcement is the first that follows that opportunity.

Six of the applications were approved for $1 million, with a couple of others coming close. The million dollar approvals are The University of Cincinnati Medical Center (Cincinnati); Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (Hutchinson, KS, as part of a consortium of six hospitals across the state); Seattle Children’s Hospital (Seattle); Sinai Health System (a consortium of five hospitals in Chicago); The Westchester County Health Care Corp. (Valhalla, NY) and Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (a consortium of hospitals throughout Illinois).

The smallest award was given to Southeast Inc. of Columbus, OH. The firm was awarded $51,733 for equipment purchases.

“As the impact of new variants continues to challenge our healthcare system, the FCC has worked diligently to review and approve funding commitments as part of our COVID-19 Telehealth Program,” Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a press release. “As we head into 2022, the ability to treat patients and loved ones from the safety of their home is of vital importance.”

The previous application approvals were announced last month. That tranche included 75 organizations and was for virtually the same amount as the group announced today: $42,163,705.
