
The DSL Forum is reporting that IPTV subscribership has grown 179% in the past year, led by growth in Europe and Asia. The U.S. saw IPTV subscribers grow from 660K to just over 1 million. Worldwide, the DSL Forum reports just over 8 million total IPTV subscribers. The data comes from a DSL Forum sponsored study, conducted by Point Topic. It’s not clear on exactly how many of these IPTV subs utilize DSL. The DSL Forum points to AT&T in the U.S. as a shining example of IPTV success with DSL. Competitively speaking, IPTV has its work cut out for it. It’s a speck on the radar screen in terms of subscriber numbers, when compared to cable and DBS sub counts. For example, DirecTV and DISH Networks have close to 30 million combined subscribers in the U.S. alone.
