Windstream is well on their way to closing their acquisition of Iowa Telecom. Shareholders of the Newton, Iowa based telecom carrier approved the Windstream acquisition, with 97.8% approving the transaction. Windstream announced the $1.1 billion deal back in November 2009.

The deal still has to be approved by the Iowa Utilities Board and the FCC. It’s expected to close by mid-2010. At the time of the deal announcement, Iowa Telecom had 256,000 access lines, about 95,000 high-speed Internet customers and about 26,000 digital TV customers across Iowa and Minnesota.

Windstream was on an acquisition tear in 2009. In addition to Iowa Telecom, they announced or closed on NuVox, D&E Communications, and Lexcom. I doubt they’re through.
