At the end of April of 2022, PSC based out of St. Meinrad Indiana will be shutting down their linear television service that has been in operation since 2006. PSC still had a desire to serve their customers with a video solution, and according to PSC Vice President of Network Operations Fred Recker, the decision was made to offer a live streaming service consisting of the local networks delivered with the MG-TV Live Streaming platform from Innovative Systems.
The biggest reason PSC is continuing to offer a solution is a lack of affordable options for their customers who just want the local networks, and the difficulty of obtaining these signals with over the air antenna. Video customers who were subscribing to PSC’s basic linear package would be forced to move to a YouTube TV or other live streaming service, paying twice the cost just to receive the few channels that they watch. Recker said PSC felt responsible to offer them a “skinny” streaming TV bundle that they have branded as PSCStream.

Cost-Effective Switch Brings PSC Closer to Profitability in Video
By reducing their channel lineup to just locals and moving to a streaming solution that allows customers to bring their own devices, Recker says he can see a day where they may move to making a profit in video. Early response has been good with a steady stream of customers contacting PSC to switch over or add PSCStream to their service.
Single Vendor Solution
As the PSC team was vetting live streaming delivery vendors, what stood out for them was that Innovative Systems could provide the important components that reduced dependence on multiple vendors. According to Recker the InnoStream platform and the T-40 InnoCoder/Transcoder make it much easier for them when it comes to support calls, eliminating the traditional vendor finger-pointing.
