Hughes Network Systems reported that its 2010 broadband satellite terminal shipments surpassed 327,000, setting an annual company record. Cumulatively, Hughes has shipped more than 2.5 million terminals worldwide.

“Every one of those 2.5 million terminals is a testament to the trust placed in Hughes by our customers for their communications solutions,” CEO Pradman Kaul, was quoted as saying in the news release.

North American subscribers to the HughesNet consumer service numbers more than half-a-million, and is “growing at accelerated rates as qualified customers take advantage of the $58.7 million subsidy awarded to Hughes under The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Broadband Stimulus Program,” according to the company.

The broadband stimulus program provides subsidies for end users to obtain the necessary equipment and subscribe to the generally higher cost satellite broadband service.
