Hughes, Celona Partner to Offer Private Wireless Networks

Hughes Network Systems, LLC, and Celona are partnering to launch a fully managed private wireless network solution, the companies announced today.

The new offering is designed to offer various industries secure, mobile, and high-performance private wireless networks. Private wireless — available in 4G and 5G iterations — uses the same equipment as commercial networks to serve a large, single entity, such as an enterprise or a campus.

The partnership will combine Celona’s 5G LAN technology with Hughes’ managed services experience to offer an end-to-end solution, from site design and deployment to 24/7 network monitoring and support.

According to a press release, the combined offering is designed to avoid common connectivity challenges in large or dense environments, while also supporting real-time applications, including robotics, video analytics, and connected worker systems.

“Enterprises today are under pressure to modernize their operations, adopt automation, and connect more devices than ever before. Traditional Wi-Fi and public networks simply weren’t designed for that level of complexity,” Hughes Vice President of Enterprise Managed Services Colleen Caruso said in a prepared statement about the private wireless networks offering.

“Our relationship with Celona enables secure, scalable, policy-compliant, business-ready wireless that’s fully managed from end to end. Our goal is to empower our customers to meet today’s operational demands and lead tomorrow’s innovations.”

The companies announced the offering months after a May report from ABI Research saying private wireless networks have been disappointing in the United States.

The study, which included input from 458 manufacturing decision-makers, found linear performance among private wireless networks in Germany and Malaysia. In the United States, however, initial private 5G rollouts have declined 11% since last year. The measured categories were users scaling 4G, those conducting full implementations, and those exploring next iterations of the technology, according to ABI.
