Press Release

Columbus, OH – February 25, 2020 – Horizon, a regional fiber broadband company based in Ohio, has announced a new connection to the Equinix Data Center on Cermak Road in Chicago, IL, a major Internet on-ramp hub for the Midwest.

By connecting the Horizon network backbone to the data center on Cermak Road, customers can now get Horizon leading-edge Ethernet and IP services up to 10 Gbps between Chicago and Columbus.

“We have already contracted to connect two global companies that reach over 180 countries from the Cermak location into Columbus,” says Joey Holibaugh, Senior VP of Carrier and Business Development. “This expansion will continue to help other carriers, from regional to international, reach Columbus and other parts of Ohio from Chicago that they haven’t been able to get to before.”

The Cermak Road data center is the Midwest’s largest Internet Exchange. In addition to helping customers reach Ohio, Horizon can also help current Ohio customers reach Chicago through the same low latency, high SLA Ethernet network that they have already been using. This provides expansion and ease of access for direct connectivity to Internet peers, content delivery networks and cloud service providers using the Equinix Data Center.

“The expansion provides Horizon with significant growth capabilities and makes for an easy connection path for our partners and carriers,” stated Glenn Lytle, Horizon CRO. “We have one of the densest fiber footprints in the southern half of Ohio and can now be seen as the conduit into Columbus and surrounding areas. Meeting at Cermak allows us the ability to connect just about anyone into the rapidly growing Columbus and surrounding market.”
