SMITHSON VALLEY, (January 26, 2015) — Every customer in GVTC’s 2,000 square mile service area now has access to a broadband connection no matter how secluded they live. A partnership with satellite broadband provider, Exede®, brought GVTC a cost effective solution to bring Internet access to its most rural customers. Before the agreement with Exede®, GVTC was able to deliver broadband service to approximately 98 percent of its customer base. The GVTC Exede service closes the broadband gap for GVTC’s most rural customers.
“This initiative by GVTC fulfills my pledge announced at our 2013 Annual Meeting to deliver broadband access to every one of our customers, regardless of their remote location,” GVTC President and CEO Ritchie Sorrells said. “GVTC’s partnership with Exede® lets all of our rural customers to enjoy Internet speeds available in larger metropolitan areas.”
Approximately 2,000 customers will be eligible for the GVTC Exede service with a 12 Mbps connection speed. Plans for GVTC Exede start at $49.95 with no installation fees. GVTC is in the process of contacting eligible customers directly to let them know about the service.
Exede® delivers high-speed Internet to more than 285,000 subscribers across the U.S. Powered by ViaSat-1, the world’s highest-capacity satellite uses spot-beam technology to cover approximately 80 percent of the U.S. population.
