Great Plains Communications (GPC), a telecommunications provider in the Midwest, has agreed to acquire Fastwyre Broadband’s Nebraska business, which spans more than two dozen communities in the Cornhusker State.
GPC is a portfolio company of Grain Management, LLC. Fastwyre is a d.b.a. of the American Broadband Holding Company.
Great Plans Communications said that Fastwyre Broadband subscribers in Nebraska will see future upgrades because of the acquisition, benefit from more than 20,000 miles of MEF-certified fiber, and have access to local call centers.
The press release said that the deal is liable to customary closure requirements. No financial terms were disclosed. The Great Plans Communications announcement did not go into specifics, but said the company would follow its strategy of investing year over year into its networks.
“Our vision has always been to expand our fiber network throughout the Midwest and beyond and acquiring Fastwyre’s Nebraska business is a strategic milestone in that journey,” Great Plans Communications CEO Todd Foje said in a press release.
“This acquisition strengthens our position in key markets, opens new opportunities for growth and builds on our 115-year history as a trusted technology partner in Nebraska. What continues to set us apart is the strength of our high-performing network and the dedication of our high-performing people, enabling us to consistently create long-term value while delivering the superior experience customers expect and deserve.”
In May 2024, GPC announced that it had completed projects and begun operations to services — including symmetrical speeds as fast as 2 Gbps — to the Nebraska communities of Gretna, Papillion, Ralston, and additional areas of their existing Kearney footprint.
Though it is more than a century old, GPC is keeping up with the times. Last September, it introduced Wi-Fi Elite, to its Nebraska, Colorado, Indiana, and Iowa subscribers. The white glove service, which costs $12 per month, provides comprehensive setup and operational services to its subscribers.
