FCC Launches Broadband.gov Website

It’s a great time to be in the business of developing broadband focused websites for the government. The latest entrant is broadband.gov. It’s the FCC’s new website that tracks their development of a national broadband policy. This new website joins a slew of other new government sponsored websites for the broadband stimulus program, including Broadband USA, the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP) website, and the Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) website.

The new FCC website aims to be a central location to follow the progress of the national broadband plan, which is due in February 2010. The site even has a countdown clock. These new ‘transparency’ initiatives are great. Let’s hope they are an indication of true progress regarding policy development that will encourage and facilitate deeper broadband penetration across the entire country and all of its citizens,
