Embarq CEO Daniel Hesse recently commented that consolidation in the telecom space is inevitable, and he sees Embarq as an active acquirer. Hesse also thinks that private equity could become much more active with telecom carriers when/if the regulatory environment settles. Like many local telecom carriers, Embarq is seeing access line declines and they have budgeted for a 6% decline in 2007. Hesse reports that Embarq is also testing a video product, but won’t reveal the details.
