“Does plain-old voicemail face an imminent demise?”
Jon Arnold, the noted telecom analyst and blogger, says “yes,” Metaswitch SVP of Product Strategy, Martin Taylor says “no.”
“It will be sad to see an old friend pass, but its best days are surely behind it now that time has run out on a service so old that many grandmothers can barely remember life without it,” says Arnold.
“I’m not so sure,” says Taylor. “There are certainly lots of richer voice messaging services available, but there’s also a heck of a lot of people still using POVM, and a great deal of service provider revenue being derived from it.”
