DOCSIS 3.0 Could Provide Competitive Advantage

DOCSIS 3.0 may bring services and applications that provide its network operators with competitive advantage, including broadband speeds of 150 Mbps. DOCSIS 3.0 pairs (or bonds) channels, allowing higher symmetric broadband speeds. With such a broadband arsenal, a cableco could compete with a FTTH deployment, without necessarily pushing fiber all the way to the premise themselves. Certification of DOCSIS 3.0 equipment could begin in Fall 2007.
