PETALUMA, CA–(Marketwire – March 08, 2011) — Cyan today announced that Phoenix NAP, a next generation data center and network access point, has deployed packet-optical solutions from Cyan to inter-connect the company’s premier, 90,000-square foot colocation facility with a second data center in the Phoenix area over a dark fiber infrastructure. The Cyan Z-Series platforms provide Phoenix NAP with resilient, high-performance and low-latency transport between data centers to meet the requirements of carrier and enterprise customers looking for flexible, cost-effective data center solutions.
Phoenix NAP offers its clients a range of colocation services and data center options to meet their specific needs. As part of the company’s plan to bring more carrier connectivity alternatives into the facility in 2011, Phoenix NAP required scalable and resilient packet-optical inter-connectivity with a second data center in the Phoenix area. After evaluating solutions from a number of vendors, Phoenix NAP selected Cyan’s Z-Series packet-optical transport platform (P-OTP) and multi-layer software systems to provide a highly-scalable, low-latency network for transporting customer traffic between the two sites in a fault-tolerant ring configuration, utilizing diverse fiber paths.
“Our state-of-the-art data center facility was designed with the latest technologies to support disaster recovery and business continuity services with secure, highly reliable network access,” said Raman Sud, director, network infrastructure for Phoenix NAP. “Cyan’s powerful transport solutions provided the rare combination of ultra-low latency transport, architectural scale, and performance, with simple and flexible operations. When you add in Cyan’s incredible customer service, you’ve got the kind of partner that helps us to meet the diverse needs of our customers while keeping infrastructure costs in check.”

Phoenix NAP selected Cyan’s Z-Series platform for its versatile architecture, which economically supports Ethernet, DWDM and wavelength selectable switching for ultra low latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet transport, as well as the ability of Cyan’s multi-layer software to more efficiently plan, manage and verify networks. The combination of massively scalable Z-Series platforms with modular “pay-as-you-grow” functionality, and simplified multi-layer management enables service providers and data centers to reduce capital and operational expenses, while scaling networks for new revenue generating services.
“As a next generation data center facility, Phoenix NAP clearly embraces powerful new solutions for upgrading their infrastructure and scaling their network capacity,” said Nick Thomas, head of data center sales, Cyan. “By utilizing Cyan’s Z-Series platform and multi-layer software systems, Phoenix NAP is now better equipped to meet the needs of their growing customer base by delivering new higher-performing services, enabling greater visibility into those services and at a lower cost.”
