Comcast NOW Brings Prepaid to Internet and Streaming TV, As Well As Mobile

Comcast’s new NOW brand brings the prepaid concept to Internet access and streaming TV in addition to offering mobile phone services and hotspot access.

The brand consists of NOW Internet, NOW Mobile, NOW TV and NOW WiFi Pass. It leverages the Xfinity network and 5G mobile service. The NOW brand features “all-in” pricing with no contracts or credit checks. Sign-up, pausing and cancelling service are available online at any time, the company said.

Initial customer trials of NOW Internet and NOW Mobile are ongoing in Hartford-New Haven, Houston and Miami. The two services will be rolled out across Comcast’s entire footprint during the coming weeks. NOW TV and NOW WiFi Pass are available across the company’s footprint now.

Comcast is positioning the NOW brand in a changing environment. The company described it as an alternative to the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which is winding down as it awaits governmental funding.

The company also is positioning the new brand as a better-priced alternative to fixed wireless access, which is making significant gains.

Details of the four Comcast NOW services are:

  • NOW Internet prepaid options are 100 Mbps for $30 per month or 200 Mbps for $45 per month. Both include unlimited data and an Xfinity gateway.
  • NOW Mobile will provide unlimited 5G data, talk and text for $25 per line and can access more than 23 million Xfinity hotspots.
  • NOW TV streaming for Xfinity Internet customers includes live and on-demand programming from more than 40 networks, more than two dozen integrated free advertising-supported streaming channels and Peacock Premium for $20 per month.
  • NOW WiFi Pass provides unlimited access to more than 23 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots for $20 per month.

“Consumers have told us they want low-cost, easy-to-use connectivity and entertainment options that deliver the same reliability and consistency of our leading Xfinity services,” Dave Watson, Comcast’s president and CEO of connectivity and platforms, said in a press release.

“With NOW, we’ve developed a new product construct from the ground up to be simple and easy for anybody who wants internet, mobile or TV on their own terms without sacrificing quality. It rounds out our product offering to provide something for every consumer segment of the market and plays to our strengths in superior network capabilities, WiFi and streaming.”
