Comcast subsidiary Comcast Spotlight, their advertising sales arm, has expanded their relationship with telcoTV competitors. They just recently signed AT&T as a client to sell advertising spots for certain U-verse TV markets. Comcast Spotlight does similar activity for Verizon in certain FiOS markets.
Comcast Spotlight will sell local advertising on U-verse in 21 markets on up to 50 cable networks. “AT&T is excited to be working with Comcast Spotlight,” said Greg McCastle, SVP AT&T Advanced Ad Solutions. “We look forward to working together to make AT&T’s U-verse TV inventory available to local market television advertisers through the Spotlight sales team. “
The arrangement highlights how competitive barriers can be scaled when it makes business sense to both parties. AT&T and Comcast are in a spirited battle for triple and double play customers in these markets, but by pooling their subscriber counts for advertising dollars, they both win.
Comcast Spotlight is one of the leading advertising sales firms in the country. By representing other cable companies, and now increasingly telcos, they’ve built up a collective base of 30 million subscribers. Their competitors include Cox Media Group, Time Warner Cable Media, Viamedia, and Prime Media Productions, among others.
