Cityside Fiber Launches Connectivity Initiative in Irvine, California

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Cityside Fiber, an Irvine-based fiber internet provider, in partnership with the City of Irvine, announced the launch of a collaborative initiative that will expand their high-speed fiber network over the coming years. The ambitious program will provide 100% fiber-optic internet access to tens of thousands of residences and businesses currently unserved. This initiative will result in an over $50 million investment by Cityside Fiber into Irvine’s infrastructure and will support connectivity at city facilities.

The project is currently underway in the Walnut and College Park areas of Irvine, with fiber installations to neighborhoods in El Camino Real, Turtle Rock, and Northwood planned to start later this year. Cityside Fiber, City of Irvine Councilmembers, and officials celebrated the initiative’s launch with a groundbreaking ceremony at Heritage Community Park.

“This collaboration between Irvine and Cityside Fiber, based right here in our community, is an exciting effort to make Irvine one of, if not the most, connected cities in the entire country,” said Vice Mayor James Mai. “We are a City that prides itself on our quality of life, our technological infrastructure, and our sense of community, and we are thrilled to have Cityside Fiber here supporting each of those efforts.”

Cityside Fiber has been expanding its fiber service across Orange County over the last two years, bringing high-speed internet to six local cities, including its first Irvine neighborhood of West Irvine earlier this year. Cityside Fiber has active projects in several additional cities in the region and continues to invest in Orange County infrastructure and connectivity.

“The support from the City of Irvine has been tremendous and gives us the confidence and excitement to make this long-term investment in the community,” said Cityside Fiber CEO Rod Hanson. “We are committed to helping the City achieve its ambitious connectivity goals that empower Irvine residents and businesses long into the future.”

Cityside Fiber is focusing its initial development on public streets, but the initiative’s intention is to connect as much of the Irvine community as possible. This includes expanding service within the private drives of Irvine’s homeowners’ associations as well, through coordination with each individual HOA that signs up for service.
