Charter’s Spectrum Enhances Video Self-Service Functions

Charter Spectrum aims to enhance customer experience and drive satisfaction with the introduction of digital video self-service tools on its brand telecommunications services.

The digital tools will enable customers to upgrade from free “with ads” to paid “without ads” versions of its video streaming services via the My Spectrum App or Spectrum.net. Customers will pay only the retail price difference between the two iterations of the services they choose, which range from $3 to $10 per month.

Subscribers who now receive programming with ads will be able to upgrade to services including AMC+ with Ads, Disney+ Basic, HBO Max Basic With Ads, Paramount+ Essential, ViX Premium With Ads, and Peacock Premium with Ads. The option will soon be available for Hulu (With Ads) and ESPN’s forthcoming streaming service, Charter says.

Spectrum internet-only customers will be able to add video streaming apps on an à la carte basis at spectrum.net. They will navigate to the services link, select the “TV/Streaming” tab, click on the desired apps and follow the prompts to choose preferred upgrade, billing option and payment methods.

Last September, Spectrum announced changes to its services related to “customer commitment.” The changes included lowering some prices, introducing service guarantees, and promising no annual contracts.

The company said it would guarantee prices for “up to three years,” and announced new pricing for their 500 Mbps ($30/month) and 1 Gbps ($40/month) internet services, when “bundled with two lines of Spectrum’s fastest Mobile and/or Video services.”

The Spectrum video tools follow a recent trend; never have so many different applications been available to so many devices in so many ways. The flipside of that broad landscape is that people can be confused, and consumer satisfaction and customer experience can suffer. Service guarantees and price locks have emerged as a way to keep customers content.
