C Spire Fiber has begun construction and is accepting preorders for the gigabit network it is building in the unincorporated area of Mobile County, Alabama.
Construction began last month in 22 “fiberhoods” that will pass thousands of homes during the next few months, with service becoming available this summer. C Spire is targeting the more than 179,000 people who live outside of Mobile and ten other cities in the country.
“High-speed, all-fiber broadband internet service can be a game-changer for Mobile County and other Alabama communities,” C Spire Home General Manager Ashley Phillips said in a press release. “Our ability to provide symmetric speeds immediately solves real-world challenges associated with interactive learning, remote work and telehealth applications. That’s good news as our FiberFast initiative continues.”
In January, C Spire announced a $1 billion, three-year expansion that would bring high speed fixed and 5G mobile service to Mississippi and Alabama, with about half going to build all-fiber gigabit networks in Alabama. The company said that the investment was to be followed by an additional $500 million dollar investment.
The company has begun offering service in several Alabama markets, including Jasper and Trussville, Helena and Pelham and Northport and Tuscaloosa. The company is seeking interest in its broadband networks from other Alabama communities.
In March, C Spire announced that it was accepting preorders and beginning construction in Ocean Springs, MS.
