CenturyLink is the new name of the merged CenturyTel-Embarq company. CenturyTel announced the new merged company will begin using the name immediately after the closing of the merger transaction. “Our new brand name was selected because our customers and employees told us it reflected a company that is forward-looking and committed to linking the country together,” said Glen F. Post III, who will be chief executive officer of CenturyLink, in a company statement.
The new merged company only has one remaining hurdle for the merger to be complete. The FCC must give its blessing. CenturyTel announced the last remaining states entered their approval for the merger late last week. The merger has seemed to move rather quickly, at least as far as corporate mergers go. CenturyLink will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker CTL.
