Not quite yet, but according to Strategy Analytics, maybe by 2013. They are predicting that broadband will grow by 7% in 2009, adding five million new broadband subscribers. “All things considered, we’re still seeing a fairly vibrant consumer Broadband market in the US,” said Ben Piper, Director of the Strategy Analytics Multiplay Market Dynamics service. “Broadband subscriber numbers are expected to grow by a respectable 7% in 2009—a far cry from the double-digit growth of the past, but nonetheless pretty robust in today’s climate.”
The study also reports that 50% of broadband subscribers receive their service from cable companies, but FTTH based broadband is growing and will represent 13% of all broadband connections by 2013. Seven percent growth in 2009 would be a dramatic improvement over 2008. Our recent study Rural vs. Urban: Examining Residential Broadband and Access Line Trends 2008 revealed overall broadband growth at approximately 3%.
