NTIA has allocated $1204M in BEAD funding to Mississippi.
The Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) fund is a new competitive grant program designed to fund three types of broadband investments: large scale projects, line extensions, and community based broadband projects. The BEAM fund will prioritize last-mile fiber applicants for the large scale and line extension projects and will prioritize high-speed, reliable internet to downtown commercial areas for the community-based broadband projects. The program is designed to provide internet service with speeds of 100/100 Mbps upon project completion. The program received over $150 million from the Treasury Capital Projects Fund.
The CPF program provides funding to make broadband connections in critical areas of the state that lack access to high-speed internet. The $151 million CPF investment will be combined with tens of millions in matching funds. This program was developed to bring broadband infrastructure that will deliver speeds that meet or exceed symmetrical speeds of 100 Mbps.
