Tarana Ribbon Cutting

Broadband/Fixed Wireless Partnership Will Connect Osage Nation

A partnership between Osage Broadband in Oklahoma and Tarana, a fixed wireless technology provider, will bring broadband to 2,300 square miles of underserved and indigenous communities in Osage County.

This broadband/fixed wireless partnership will combine technologies to deliver high-speed broadband connections to the residents and businesses of Osage County. Osage Broadband and their partner AtLink Services will provide connectivity — via fiber, in most cases — to Tarana’s towers. From there, Tarana’s end-to-end next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) system will deliver a connection to homes and businesses wirelessly.

At the ribbon-cutting event for the new network, Principal Chief of Osage Nation Geoffrey Standing Bear said, “It shows progress in our partnerships, and our dreams being realized. It really creates a closer sense of community.”

According to Tarana’s announcement, most people in the area are served by no better than 25/3 Mbps connections. After the broadband/fixed wireless network upgrade, connections will feature speeds of more than 400 Mbps.

Broadband/fixed wireless technology will also help restore service more quickly after natural disasters like tornadoes — which are common in Oklahoma — according to Osage Broadband and Tarana.

This was put to the test in May, when a tornado disrupted service in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Osage Broadband and their partner American Tower were able to deploy Tarana’s technology to the town to restore broadband service.

“In the wake of a natural disaster, restoring service swiftly is not just about reconnecting infrastructure,” said Susan Ross, Vice President of Vertical and New Product Sales at American Tower. “It’s about reviving hope, rebuilding resilience, and reuniting communities.”

Tarana is emerging as a leader in the fixed wireless space, with recent partnerships with national carriers like Mediacom and regional providers like Nextlink.
