Brightspeed launched Wi-Fi 7 technology across the company’s gig-speed plans — including Brightspeed Fiber Internet 1 Gig, 2 Gig, 8 Gig and its newly launched 5 Gig plan — the company announced this week.

Brightspeed was quick to tout the features of Wi-Fi 7:

Faster speeds: Brightspeed said the technology can provide speeds up to twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6.2, which will help with users’ experience with real-time applications such as video conferencing, telemedicine, cloud gaming, and immersive alternate reality and virtual reality experiences.

Improved whole home coverage: Brightspeed said its Wi-Fi 7 mesh system intelligently adapts to various devices, optimizing performance in every room of a home and ensuring consistent connectivity throughout the home.

Simplicity of setup: Brightspeed will offer installation of Wi-Fi 7 that includes network health checks, optimal equipment placement, and device onboarding.

“Launching Wi-Fi 7 across our gig-speed fiber internet plans is about more than faster speeds, it’s about unlocking opportunity,” said Brightspeed Executive Chairman and CEO Michel Combes in a prepared statement.

“For families, students, small businesses and healthcare providers in communities that have long lacked reliable connectivity, especially in rural America, this technology levels the playing field. It means smoother remote learning, better access to telehealth, stronger local businesses and the confidence that world-class connectivity isn’t limited by geography.”

Brightspeed’s announcement of Wi-Fi 7 availability follows on the heels of GFiber’s announcement last month that it was rolling out multi-gig internet speeds to customers at the same price they were paying for lower speeds. GFiber said it was rolling out the new, higher speeds in Des Moines, Iowa first, but the company’s announcement suggested they were planning to roll out the speeds to all markets. The company also said its two highest-speed plans would feature Wi-Fi 7 routers.
