Breezeline Invests $82M to Expand Fiber Broadband in Two States

Breezeline has finished the construction phase of a pair of projects –its fiber expansion initiative in Somersworth, Madbury, Dover, Durham and Concord, NH; and a 283-mile fiber expansion in Morgantown, WV.

The company was formerly known as Atlantic Broadband.

Breezeline has invested more than $40 million in the New Hampshire expansion, which includes a 525-mile fiber network that now reaches more than 45,000 homes and businesses in the five communities.

In West Virginia, Breezeline invested an additional $42 million in a 283-mile construction project that will serve nearly 40,000 homes and businesses in Morgantown, Star City, Westover, Granville, Cheat Lake and Brookhaven in Monongalia County.

The company has been winning funding to cover some costs of its ongoing network expansion. In May, Breezeline, Shentel and Verizon won funding for two broadband projects apiece through the Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI). The funding will cover some of the costs to bring broadband to unserved and underserved areas, with all three providers covering the majority of deployment costs.

In February, Breezeline completed construction of a $7.2 million, 150-mile fiber-broadband network in several Virginia counties that received VATI funding. The network will serve more than 1,400 homes and businesses in Mathews, Caroline, Lancaster and Middlesex counties that also received VATI funding.

“Breezeline is proud to provide choice, value and ultra-high-speed connectivity via our advanced fiber network,” Frank van der Post, president of Breezeline, said in a prepared statement. “The investment we have made in fiber technology with gigabit speeds provides a great connected experience for homes and businesses along with long-term economic benefits for the region.”
