Breezeline Introduces Symmetrical 2.5 Gbps in Five States

Broadband operator Breezeline has introduced a symmetrical 2.5 Gbps service, which the company says is its fastest tier.

Breezeline serves 13 states. The new tier is now available in five of those: Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Virginia, and West Virginia.

“This launch shows Breezeline is the right choice for speed and value,” Breezeline Chief Commercial Officer Bart Nickerson said in a press release. “This ultra-fast 2.5 Gig internet speed, along with our recent expansion of fiber internet across five states, proves our commitment to providing customers with great connectivity at an affordable price point that truly meets the demands of today’s digital life.”

Though Breezeline is primarily known as a cable broadband company, a company spokesperson told Telecompetitor the upgrades are to its fiber infrastructure, not its legacy cable operation.

“Our newly announced 2.5 Gig services are delivered using XGS-PON fiber technology,” wrote the spokesperson.

In January 2024, Breezeline said it had finished the construction phase of expansions in Somersworth, Madbury, Dover, Durham, and Concord, New Hampshire, and a 283-mile fiber expansion in Morgantown, West Virginia. The New Hampshire expansion cost more $40 million and featured a 525-mile fiber network that at the time reached more than 45,000 addresses in the five communities.

The $42 million West Virginia initiative reached almost 40,000 homes and businesses in Morgantown, Star City, Westover, Granville, Cheat Lake, and Brookhaven in Monongalia County.

In March 2024, Breezeline entered the mobile phone arena when it introduced Breezeline Mobile. At the time, plans called for it to offer by-the-gig and unlimited options.

Breezeline changed its name from Atlantic Broadband to Breezeline in 2022 and claims to be the eighth largest cable company in the U.S.
