Bluepeak, a broadband service provider focused on midwestern states, is adding a $150 million investment to an ongoing fiber project in South Dakota.
So far, Bluepeak has invested more than $95 million to reach 55,000 residents and businesses in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Vermillion and nearby South Dakota communities. In addition to the fiber deployment, Bluepeak says it has expanded its multistate backbone network, increased capacity to major Internet peering locations, upgraded components of its regional and metro fiber networks, and launched a commercial services network.
The second round of investments means the project will reach more than 175,000 residents and businesses across the state, the press release says.
In addition to South Dakota, Bluepeak is active in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Texas.
“We’re proud of the investments we’ve made to connect communities across South Dakota,” said Bluepeak CEO Rich Fish in a press release. “This next phase represents our continued commitment to delivering world-class broadband service and ensuring our customers have the connectivity they need to thrive in today’s digital world.”
One of the reasons the company has been expanded is an investment made by Areas Management Infrastructure Opportunities and Alternative Credit Strategies that was announced in March 2024. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. It was aimed at the company’s Great Plains deployment, which — up to that point — had reached more than 140,000 homes.
In May 2024, two months after announcing the investment, Bluepeak said it would invest more than $19.5 million to expand its fiber network to more than 16,000 homes and businesses in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
More recently, Bluepeak announced in October 2025 that it had provided free speed upgrades to more than 25,000 customers in South Dakota and Minnesota. Those getting the upgrade have minimum available speeds of 300 Mbps.
