Atlantic Broadband, a mid size cable operator based in Quincy, Mass. with operations on the east coast, will launch a television VOD channel featuring both locally produced and web derived content. The MSO will utilize technology from ClearLeap to power the new service. The new VOD channel will initially launch in their Johnstown, Pa., and Miami Beach, Fla. Systems. Atlantic Broadband services close to 300k total cable subscribers.
Atlantic will feature locally produced content, as well as web video from third party sources including Revision3, Next New Networks, and blip.tv. The move illustrates a continuing interest in bridging web video with the TV, as well as an ongoing effort by service providers of all sizes to feature local content. According to Multichannel News, an example of the type of local content to be featured includes ‘Thunder in the Valley’, a Johnstown, Pa. family-friendly biker rally, which took place June 25-28.
