When comparing IPTV, cable, and satellite television services, IPTV subscribers appear to be more satisfied. According to research by Strategy Analytics (SA), 95% of IPTV subscribers report they are somewhat or very satisfied with their television service, compared with 78% for satellite subscribers and 67% of cable subscribers.
SA study findings also suggest IPTV subscribers are less likely to churn to other television options. While over two-thirds of pay television subscribers would be willing to switch providers if offered a price discount of 20%, only 33% of IPTV subscribers would switch.
But before IPTV service providers pump their fists too much, there are some challenges. While satisfaction levels are high for IPTV, SA also reports that all television subscribers (regardless of platform) are beginning to question the true value of subscription TV services. Fewer than 22% of subscribers felt they were getting “value for money” that exceeded expectations. “It underscores a trend we have been seeing for the past 18 months: a growing number of customers are beginning to question the value of a “traditional” pay TV subscription in light of expanded “over-the-top” offerings, such as Hulu and Netflix.”
