Robocalls dropped significantly last month, according to YouMail’s latest Robocall Index report.
During October, U.S. consumers received just under 3.8 billion robocalls, a 7.7% decrease from September, and nearly a 24% drop from October of 2024. The report said thre were an average of 120.6 million robocalls/day and 1,396 robocalls/second, down 10.7% from September’s average of 135.1 million robocalls/day and 1,564 robocalls/second.
The monthly decline continues a trend that started in April, when the calls peaked. The latest monthly total is about 1.2 billion (24%) below the peak.
Despite the declines since April, the report said the 2025 10-month total of robocalls was still nearly 2% higher than in the same period last year.
More than half (55%) of the calls are unwanted. Wanted robocalls include items like appointment reminders, confirmations, requested alerts from financial services providers (i.e., low balance notices), etc.
The primary unwanted calls — scam and telemarketing — fell from roughly 2.5 billion to roughly 2.1 billion calls, a huge decrease of 400 million calls, the lowest figure in a year. Those calls now account for 56% of all robocall volume, down from the 60% they had consistently accounted for over the past six months.
“We’ve seen seven straight months of declining call volume since it peaked earlier this year,” said YouMail CEO Alex Quilici, in a prepared statement about the robocalls report.
“But the threat hasn’t gone away. 3.7 billion robocalls still hit consumers every month, and the majority of them are scams or telemarketing calls. After all, who hasn’t gotten a sketchy debt relief call this month? On top of that, based on past trends, we expect this number to surge again soon, making protection more critical than ever.”
In its September report, YouMail said robocalls to U.S. consumers fell 4% between July and August, and 6.1% over the 12 months ending in August. That report said the 4.1 million robocalls received during August were also down 16% from the 2025 peak reached in April.
